We get a certain idea of what inspired the musical content on the record via a selection cassettes depicted under the vignette " may contain traces of ". Here we find Perrey and Kingsley ( electronica pioneers ) , The Sparkles , dEUS , Wire , Kali Bahlu , Seigmen , Blood Loss, Butthole Surfers , Biohazard , The Fall , Isis , plus various film / film music references: Demons 2 , Bloodsucking Freaks , Forbidden Planet , The Great Dictator , Futurama and Urotsukidoji ( erotic horror manga ) .

Whether Schtonk! is composed of all these ingredients I do not know for certain, but the musical direction is certainly divergent. Fuzz guitars dominant in different retrodisguises, synth tones color the songs with a wide selection of vintage facets, and the sound of the vocal also varies throughout the album. The synthetic percussion works well here, with much variety to the sound. It has a certain industrial touch from time to time, but putting some general label on this album as a whole is not easy. Electro-post-punk may cover it, but their own term "psychedelic industrial avant garage" is at least as good attempt as mine. In addition to the musical reference list they present, I might for my part add such diverse bands as Chrome, Ministry and Montasje (Presence!), Seigmen and Gartnerlosjen, all names that crosslinked / ran throgh my head while listening to “Strid”. A decidedly highlight of the album is their confident and rocking version of The Fall's "In The Area".

All in all a very attractive vinyl release, exciting musical content packaged in a way that is an example to follow. Released on their own label, Salongplay Records, it might also be ordered from their bandcampsite, Tiger or Big Dipper (and Twice and Vinil Experience, both in Lisbon).
